Off-Grid Bus Conversion

This is my 1991 Bluebird Bus Off-Grid Conversion.  The drivetrain is the almost indestructible Cummins 6BT and Allison automatic transmission with only 60,000 original miles.  The bus has been modified with a roof deck supporting 8 solar panels that provide over 2000 watts of power at 24v.  In addition to the solar panels, I used an old Military crank up CB antenna Mast to attach a 600 watt wind turbine to the top of.  This allows me to easily raise and lower the the wind turbine up to 25 feet off the roof of the bus.  The wind turbine and solar panels work together to charge a bank of 16 deep cycle batteries. These batteries power a pure sine wave 15,000 watt 220v Inverter.  This large inverter easily provides enough power to run the washer and dryer, instant water heater, refrigerator, and mini spilt heat pump system. For worst case scenarios, I added a railroad style pot belly stove as a back up heat source for the cold Colorado winters where the bus will be used the most.  I also fitted the bus with a 7 stage water filtration system including 5 cartridge filters ranging from 5 micron to 1000 micron, followed by a Dulton-Rio 2000 micron filter that is capable of catching 99.98% of all bacteria.  As an extra precaution I then installed a UV water purification light that is also rated to kill 99.98% of all bacteria. In the end, even the water you would shower in on this bus would be cleaner than bottled water.
