4x4 Diesel Mountainboard

Tire System

From a young age I have always enjoyed modifying and riding longboards and mountainboards.  I wanted to blend one of my favorite hobbies with with my knowledge of small diesel engines to create a radical, one of a kind 4x4 mountainboard.  To fabricate a board to the scale I wanted, I used all-terrain wheels from walk behind snow plow machines. These 4 wheels were powered by two right angle gear boxes at each end connect together by a small universal joint drive shaft system.  This system is powered by a small 3hp 196cc IDI swirl chamber diesel engine and TAV2 CVT.  Each wheel is independently engaged so that the board can run in FWD, RWD, 4x4 or each wheel individually. The lean to steer system gives the board 18" of overall suspension flex, and great articulation to maintain tire contact with the ground.  This mountainboard was later upgraded to a Mini Mattrack system, but can easily transform between the two with 10 minutes and 9/16 wrench.
